Diamond Rings Finishes Second Among Eligible Performers on Tree Stage
Galaxie, Your Musical Universe, is pleased to award the first prize in the Galaxie Rising Star Award contest at OSHEAGA 2013 to Hollerado, whose members live in Montreal and Toronto. The winners were chosen in part by on-site voting by fans and in part by a jury of Canadian music industry experts. Finishing with the second highest score from jury and audience is Diamond Rings from Toronto. The prizes come with a $2,000 cash award for first place, and $1,000 for second place.
“There were fantastic performances by each of the Canadian bands on the Tree Stage who were eligible for the Rising Star Award,” commented Pat Binette, Galaxie Rock programmer and Rising Star jury member. “Hollerado’s set really connected with the audience and the energy and catchy songs were infectious, setting them apart,” Binette concluded.
The Galaxie Rising Stars Program has contributed to the growth of Canadian music talent for over 14 years and has provided monetary support to over 900 Canadian artists. “Galaxie’s support of the Tree Stage at Osheaga enables a wide variety of Canadian musical acts to gain exposure and experience in front of a major festival audience”, states Gary Pelletier, Vice-President of Marketing and Director of the Galaxie Rising Stars Program for Stingray Digital. “The Rising Star Program recognizes emerging artists with a cash prize and potential airplay on a Galaxie channel. We believe that it is important to foster our Canadian talent and to watch them grow to their true potential”, mentions Mr. Pelletier.
“We are thrilled to have been selected as the Galaxie Rising Star Award winners at OSHEAGA,” said Menno Versteeg, lead singer and guitarist in Hollerado. “Playing at OSHEAGA in front of such a great crowd was rewarding in itself, but winning first prize and $2,000 makes it that much more memorable for us!” he exclaimed.
Hollerado’s latest single “Pick Me Up” is currently a top 10 song on Modern Rock and Alternative Commercial radio in Canada as well as on the Galaxie rock channels. Their new single, “So It Goes” is now Top-10 at Canadian Commercial Radio and the accompany music video has been garnering worldwide attention for its captivating, compelling story of war-time courage and forgiveness. They will be performing in Montreal at the Cabaret du Mile End on October 18th then in Quebec City at Le Cercle on October 19th as part of their cross-Canada “SO IT GOES TOUR” taking them all the way to Victoria, BC with a few stops in Detroit and Brooklyn, NY for good measure.
